Product Description
The Limited Edition Four Seasons Lucky Charm celebrates the culmination of the Japanese art of Maki-e and the legendary craftsmanship of Pelikan. Crafted by Maki-e Master Shinsai Ishikura of the renowned Kaga Hōshukai artists’ association, this extraordinary edition transforms the Souverän® M1000 into a writing instrument of exceptional expressiveness and symbolism. Equipped with a handcrafted 18-karat gold nib and enhanced with 24-karat gold-plated trims, it unites the highest culture of writing with traditional Japanese artistry.
At the center of the design lies a poetic concept inspired by a classic deck of playing cards. The four suits are reinterpreted through Japanese aesthetics and assigned to a season: Clubs represent Spring, Diamonds represent Summer, Hearts represent Autumn, and Spades represent Winter. Together, they symbolize the natural cycle of the year and the constant flow of time. At the same time, the total number of playing cards reflects the course of the year: the 52 cards add up to 364 days; adding the Joker creates 365 days—a symbol for the eternal and harmonious cycle of life.
Furthermore, each suit carries an auspicious meaning. Diamonds stand for prosperity and wealth, Hearts symbolize love and human connection, Clubs embody good fortune and the joy of life, while Spades—traditionally the strongest suit—stand for courage, strength, and perseverance. Through this complex symbolism, the writing instrument becomes far more than a decorative object: it conveys wishes for a fulfilled, balanced, and successful life.
The artistic decorative elements subtly deepen this narrative. Delicate cherry blossoms mirror the fleeting beauty of spring, flowing water represents the vitality of summer, autumn leaves symbolize transformation and maturity, while snow crystals embody the quiet strength of winter. These motifs are complemented by traditional Japanese patterns such as Sayagata and Asanoha, which stand for continuity, growth, and lasting happiness. The balanced play of red and black tones lends the design a timeless, elegant charisma.
Executed in the sophisticated technique of Kaga Togidashi-Takamaki-e, the design combines raised and polished lacquer artwork on a deep black Urushi lacquer base. In a meticulous handcrafted process, numerous layers of lacquer and precious metal powders are applied and painstakingly polished. The result is extraordinary depth, brilliance, and refinement that strikingly showcases the mastery of a centuries-old craft.
More than an exclusive writing instrument, the Four Seasons Lucky Charm is a personal talisman. Every detail carries a positive message—for endurance, harmony, joy of life, and inner strength. In the hands of its owner, it becomes a faithful companion through time, defined by cultural heritage, emotional significance, and a timeless message of hope.
