The production of the tortoise shell is subject to an elaborate process, because according to a recipe specially developed for Pelikan, a striped piece of material is made from cotton material in many steps, which is bent and then polished to contour with a diamond. The special feature of the tortoiseshell material is its slight material transparency and the different color nuances that give the material its shimmering effect. The palladium-plated rings on the filler grip and cap are fitted with the utmost precision before the writing instrument is polished to a high gloss. The slightly springy, typical Pelikan beak clip gives this high-quality writing instrument its unmistakable design. The Souverän M605 piston fountain pen features a 14-carat rhodium-plated gold nib and is available in EF, F, M and B nib widths.
